Canada's cruel and inhumane seal hunt began today. Before it's over, 1/4 of a million baby seals -- many less than 3 months old -- will be slaughtered for their pelts.
If you are as outraged as I am, please visit this site -- http://www.stopthesealhunt.ca/site/c.jhKSIZPzEmE/b.2607991/k.B25F/Stop_the_Seal_Hunt__300000_Actions_for_300000_Seals.htm -- and take action by sending an email to Canada's legislature or prime minister.
Thank you.
Hello hello. I am a Flyers fanatic, a runner, a triathlete, an animal lover, a workout maniac, a stickler for proper grammar, and a lover of challenging Sudoku and crossword puzzles, good books, and great tunes. This blog is about most of those topics -- running, racing, the Flyers, my critters, class ideas, and my deep (and not so deep) thoughts. Please leave comments! I love reading them.

Cramming for Broad Street
Here's a really bad idea.
Don't run at all for two weeks. Then run intervals on a Saturday (3 or so miles) and then a 5K on Sunday.
Then don't run again for another 12 days. Then run four times in a week!
Um, yeah. HELLO, hamstrings!!! Yeeeeoooooowwwwwccch!!! Last night my hamstrings were so sore I swear you could have produced sound from them if you tried to play them like a cello. Not even joking about that. :)
Here are the four running workouts, fort hose interested.
#1
5.4 miles basically at tempo pace. I took the first half WAY too fast without realizing it and forced myself to slow down on the way back. Average pace 8:16 per mile.
#2
3.5 easy miles on the treadmill
#3
Speedwork on the track. Oh, the pain! The suffering! The cursing! 5.2 miles total, but that included a slow warmup, 4 x 800 intervals with 400 recoveries in between, and a slow cooldown back home.
#4
5 miles total with 3 miles tempo in the middle. The tempo miles were 7:51, 7:49, and 7:52, and the total workout time was 40:27... a new 5 mile PR! Yeah baby!!

Gosh
It's been a long time. I don't even know where to begin. In the past three weeks, I've lost a very close, dear friend (unexpectedly and MUCH too soon), survived a cancer scare (is there any more beautiful word in the English language than "benign"? I think not!), passed out and broken my nose, and been generally more stressed than ever before. Lots of bad stuff going on. Bad, bad stuff.
That which doesn't kill us makes us stronger, right? At this rate, I'll soon be Arnold fricking Schwarzenegger! :)
