I'm starting to freak out. My race schedule is ridiculous.
Duathlon on July 4
Splash & Dash on July 9
Lake Placid Mini Tri on July 21
10K on August 2
Northeast Triathlon on August 17
Philadelphia Distance Run on September 21
Delaware Distance Classic on October 5
Philadelphia Marathon on November 23
If I do the marathon, I can't do the Distance Classic 15K. But I *want* to do the Distance Classic because Iron Mike will be honored there and partial proceeds come to the Boys & Girls Clubs. I don't *have* to do the Duathlon on July 4 or the Splash and Dash on July 9. But I want to; they sound fun. Isn't it supposed to be fun? Likewise, I don't have to do the 10K on August 2, but 10K is my favorite race distance, and if I do the Philly Marathon I won't be able to do the Thanksgiving 10K or Brian's Run this year.
Am I just freaking out because I don't want to think about training for a marathon? Am I talking myself right out of doing one? It's been more than 3 years since I did one. I'm remembering how much I hated running during the months of training. And how much pain I was in from miles 20-25. (Once I got to 25, I was fine... mentally, at least!)
Am I just a wimp?

You're no wimp girl;) Let me ask you something--coming from someone who's never done a marathon-why do you want to do a marathon? Sounds like you have a bunch of "fun" events lined up this summer--events you're good at. So why do a marathon? Do you think you'll enjoy it more this year?
Just speaking from my own experience (training for the PDR), I really look forward to my runs: the long ones, the hard ones, and most especially the easy ones;).
I guess I'm just an advocate of enjoy what you do! Tell us more about why you want to do a marathon and then I'll decide if you're truly a wimp;)
Jen rocks. :)
I will feel like a wimp if I wuss out from training for and doing a marathon. It's the old "all the cool kids are doing one" syndrome. The other events I want to do will be much more fun and easier to train for. I will get just as much satisfaction from doing them as from doing a marathon.
Well, almost as much satisfaction. There's nothing like crossing that finish line after hours and hours of running.
Enough about me. I'm psyched that you're enjoying your training so much!!!
You are by no means a wimp. There is also going to be another Philly Marathon. Its an annual event. A race honoring IronMike isnt something thats going to happen every year. Im sure all the kewl kids will understand the importance of honoring a friend. Nobody on the borad is going to give you any shit over it.
I am so not one of the cool kids. :(
I'll side with DW.
Do what you like. :)
I can't believe how uncool Tom is. . .
So how are you going to squeeze in your super long runs? I'm worried you'll hurt yourself:(
Be smart and careful!
I'm agreeing with the Jenkintown peeps, do what you want and what you'll have fun doing! Sure a marathon is a challenge, you know this from already having done one but if this isn't the year, so be it. Focus on those events you're psyched about and those you feel you can improve upon from year-to-year. No one will judge you for not running a marathon.
Follow your heart little lady!
My friends rock the house.
That is all.
wimp? Bwahahaha! That might be the funniest thing I've heard all month :)
Seriously, I echo everyone - do watchoowant, lady.
